Bel-Ray Molylube 1% Extreme Pressure Grease LC Hydraulic Excavator Performance

Molylube 1% Moly Extreme Pressure Grease LC, previously known as Molylube LC131 Grease, is fortified with 1% molybdenum disulfide. It is Lithium Complex based grease offering excellent Extreme Pressure capabilities, outstanding mechanical and thermal stability. Other performance characteristics include exceptional water washout resistance, and rust and corrosion protection. The available grades 00, 0, 1, 460-2 are Caterpillar certified for the SD4711 Specification for multipurpose grease.

Bel-Ray Molylube 1% Extreme Pressure Grease LC 460-2 performance on Hydraulic Excavators

Bel-Ray Molylube 1% Extreme Pressure Grease LC 460-2 has been use on a variety of large hydraulic excavators throughout Australia since 2004. Over this period the Bel-Ray product has shown extended component life on hydraulic excavators in Queensland and NSW.

New South Wales Slew Gear Application

The Bel-Ray Molylube 1% Extreme Pressure Grease LC 460-2 has been used as the primary grease on the Hitachi hydraulic excavators at NSW Mine since 2004.

Note the uniform and even coverage across the slew gear and swirling wave pattern of the Bel-Ray Molylube 1% Extreme Pressure Grease LC 460-2.

Queensland Mine Improved Bucket Pin Life

At a QL Mine operation a competitor’s lubricant was replaced with the Bel-Ray Molylube 1% Extreme Pressure Grease LC 460-2. The table below provides comparative details of the performance results achieved with using the Bel-Ray Molylube 1% Extreme Pressure Grease LC 460-2. This demonstrates an increase of over 60% component life to the bucket pins since changing to the Bel-Ray Molylube 1% Extreme Pressure Grease LC 460-2.

Temperature Comparison of Pins and Bushes

The table below depicts the decrease in temperatures recorded during the transition from the competitor’s product to the Bel-Ray Molylube 1% Extreme Pressure Grease LC 460-2.

Queensland Mine Terex RH 340 Excavators

The slew gear and centre bearing assembly on a Terex RH 340B Excavator at QL Mine was replaced at 35,000 hours. After using the Bel-Ray Molylube 1% Extreme Pressure Grease LC 460-2 since new, the slew rack and bearing were reported to still be in a serviceable condition for ongoing use. However despite the good condition of the contact surfaces, site elected to replace the slew gear and centre bearing assembly as part of their preventative maintenance program.

On the Terex RH 340B Excavator at QL Mine the Boom Stick Pivot Pin and Boom Foot Pins are reported as original components and have over 40,000 hrs on them:

Bel-Ray Awarded Extensive Rope Lubricant Contract

The Bel-Ray Company, Inc. is pleased to announce that it has been awarded an expansive contract to provide ropelubricants for all gantry cranes used in the Panama Canal. Bel-Ray won the contract with its Non-Melt Wire Rope Coating Grease (40060) after an extensive trial and testing period, in which its rope lubricant product outperformed the products offered by two competitor companies.

The news of Bel-Ray’s achievement came just last month, following a rigorous trial period that lasted more than seven months. During this trial period, Bel-Ray and the Bel-Ray Distributor in Panama were invited by the Panama Ports Company (PPC) for a field test of its rope lubricant product, applied to the 37 gantry cranes used on the Canal.

The product then-used by the PPC had proven far from satisfactory; after a period of three to four months, it simply ceased to offer the needed level of protection. The criteria imposed by PPC was that the wire rope lubricant provide protection to the surface of the cables and to the cables’ core, all while delivering protection from corrosion and from the elements. Ultimately, Bel-Ray’s rope lubricant product is the only one that lived up to these standards—proving itself the superior product following a field trial against two competitor products.

To complete the trial, PPC selected three rope lubricant suppliers and assigned each one of them a gantry crane with new wire rope installations. PPC representatives recorded measurements for the diameter of the wire ropes, and each wire rope was marked for easy identification of the measurement location.

The field test commenced in January 2013, with each of the three competing lubricant products applied by hand and by representatives of PPC. For its part, Bel-Ray selected its Bel-Ray Non-Melt Wire Rope Coating Grease. This product offers low bio-aquatic and acute toxicity, and is noteworthy for not rendering any harm to marine wildlife. A heavy grease, this lubricant product passes all U.S. Environmental Protection Agency static sheen tests. Organo-clay thickened and mineral-oil based, the product is specifically engineered for application on wire ropes.

Throughout the trial, Bel-Ray’s own representatives remained vigilant in ensuring the success of its product. Bel-Ray’sdistributor inspected the application every two weeks, providing detailed analyses and field notes. Bel-Ray was, it turned out, the only company to follow up on its application—proving that, in addition to making quality products, the company is also marked by its seriousness and its professionalism.

Meanwhile, the crane applied with Bel-Ray’s lubricant turned out to be one of the most-used—and even so, the lubricant offered the highest operational performance out of the three being tested.

Following the seven-month trial, Bel-Ray’s Non-Melt Wire Rope Coating Grease still showed an excellent lubricant coating, even after being subjected to high loads, high operational hours, and even heavy rains. Bel-Ray was declared the winner and the recipient of the full gantry crane contract from the PPC.

But what is the secret to the Bel-Ray product’s success? Aside from the Bel-Ray distributor’s steadfastness, the company’s success is simply attributable to the chemistry of the lubricant itself. The product is made to offer a lubrication film that does not wash off even in severe rain, and a polar corrosion protection additive that protects against forms of wear and tear.

PPC has already ordered the first load of the Bel-Ray grease, to be applied with an automated applicator (shown below).

Bel-Ray has stood as a preeminent supplier of industrial lubricants for some decades now; the company is actively involved in the mining and motorsport industries, among many others.
