1. Does synthetic oil really make a clutch slip?

Bel-Ray EXS Synthetic Superbike Racing Motor Oil and Bel-Ray EXP Semi-Synthetic Motor Oil are both formulated to give excellent performance in wet clutches. If you look on the back of each label you will see the JASO MA logo and a unique registration code. Oil has to pass some strict wet-clutch performance tests in order to earn the JASO MA rating. Bel-Ray EXS and Bel-Ray EXP pass the test and we include the logo on the label to ensure you, the customer, that you are getting oil that will not cause your clutch to slip. So, as far as Bel-Ray synthetics making a clutch slip, consider that myth smashed! Our race teams use it in their high output race motors with excellent results. Use it in your bike to get the same awesome performance.

2. How do I and with what do I clean my foam filter?

Bel-Ray offers Bel-Ray Degreaser & Engine Cleaner that can also be used for cleaning filters. Bel-Ray Degreaser & Engine Cleaner offers the convenience of a spray on product so that little mess is made. Spray a generous amount on the dirty filter and then work it through. Give it some time and then rinse it out with water. This will remove the oil from the filter. Sometimes dirt is left trapped in the foam and it’s not a bad idea to put a little soap on the filter and wash any residual dirt out. Many people use solvents such as kerosene, mineral spirits, diesel fuel, and gasoline to remove the oil. We don’t recommend the use of these solvents because there are too many dangerous fumes involved.

3. What oil should I use in my 2004 Honda CBR 600 for the best performance?

For the best performance possible, you should use Bel-Ray EXS Synthetic Superbike Racing Motor Oil 0W-40. What most people don’t realize is that switching to this oil is the most cost-effective performance upgrade you can make to your bike. The high quality PAO synthetic base stocks which we use to formulate EXS will actually give your CBR an increase in horsepower due to the reduced friction and heat build-up. When you figure it out, running Bel-Ray EXS actually figures to be more HP per dollar spent than any other modification you can make to the bike, including aftermarket pipes and cams. Aside from the engine performance, it also provides smooth shifting and excellent clutch feel. These performance characteristics were tested and developed by our racers on the world championship superbike circuit.

4. Do you have a product that will protect my ATV's from rust/corrosion when riding in the sand by the beach?

As you know, regularly riding in moist environments requires extra protection against rust and corrosion. Bel-Ray Chain Lube delivers outstanding lubrication as well as a high level of protection from corrosion. But did you know that in these riding conditions the internals of your engine are susceptible to corrosion just like the exposed surfaces? A bit of corrosion on the face of a polished bearing or gear tooth could be the starting point for a catastrophic failure. Bel-Ray ATV Trail with Rust Defense System combines the outstanding lubrication of Bel-Ray motor oils with our RDS anti-corrosion package which results in the ultimate ATV motor oil. When it comes to the reliability of your ATV, protect your investment with Bel-Ray ATV Trail with RDS.

As far as the other exposed bare metal parts of your ATV, we would recommend Bel-Ray 6in1 be sprayed on any bare metal to protect from corrosion. It is sometimes best to spray Bel-Ray 6in1 on a rag and then wipe onto the ATV, depending on what you want to apply it to.

5. How do you apply Bel-Ray Super Clean Chain Lube without getting the lube on the rim of my wheel?

Something that we can’t stress enough is to follow the proper directions for application with Bel-Ray Super Clean Chain Lube. Bel-Ray Super Clean should be applied to a clean chain and always be sure to use the plastic hose every time you spray your chain. The spray pressure and pattern with the hose is designed to hit a chain with minimal overspray and wasted product. Spin the rear wheel and spray the chain near the bottom chain roller or where it spans from the front sprocket to rear sprocket. Be sure to traverse the chain so you get the side plates, ‘O’ Rings, and rollers. After giving the inside of the chain a good coating, spray the top of the chain as it is passing over the chain buffer. Lubing your chain back by the rear wheel is not a good practice because, besides the rim, your brake rotor could get some overspray. Be sure to lube your chain frequently as well. A properly lubed chain does wonders for maximizing rear wheel horsepower!

As for that overspray on your rim, a little Bel-Ray Brake and Parts Cleaner will take it right off.

7. I recently bought a YFZ 450 Yamaha ATV which I will use to both race and ride in the sand pits with. The owner’s manual recommends 20w-40 for the hot months and 10w-40 in the cooler months..... What Bel-Ray product do you suggest I use?

Bel-Ray ATV Racing 10W-40 is designed specifically for the engine in your brand new Yammi and is suitable for use year-round. The unique piston design, over-square bore, high revs, and high output of the YFZ engines demand oil that can provide excellent lubrication under these conditions and still provide outstanding clutch and transmission performance. Bel-Ray ATV Racing Oil is formulated partly with our high quality synthetic ester base stocks which are proven to provide maximum power output. Just fill it with the Bel-Ray ATV Racing Oil and hold-on!
